ABOUT MY JOURNEY
Trust me, I’ve been there.
I know what it feels like to feel lost in myself and my life. To numb myself. To constantly seek acceptance and approval from outside of myself. To feel incredibly overwhelmed by an overactive mind and how distressing that can feel. To have perfectionism rob me of joy, presence and time. To never feel satisfied with my life, my relationships or where I’m at.
I constantly felt the need for more, more, more. The answer was always somewhere else. Doing something bigger, better, more exciting. And then I realised, this was unsustainable. This was incongruent with the bigger picture I had for my life. My actions and my wants weren’t matching up. I was trying to fill a void within myself that didn’t feel whole. I was addicted to drama, to the dopamine highs of life – and its wasn’t doing me any favours.
All of these are trauma responses. They are conditionings that we learn from childhood and as we grow up, that we carry into adulthood. It’s only when we build self-awareness and start to recognise them for the self-destructive and sabotaging behaviours that we are that we can change them. Because I realised, I am deserving of infinite presence, joy and LOVE – so in order to receive and cultivate that, I had to make a change.
It occurred to me that I didn’t have to look far to find the answers. It wasn’t about changing my external environment at all, but about changing my internal view of my life already. About cultivating gratitude, appreciation and acceptance for my life and who I was. About coming home to my self, and my ultimate wellbeing that I was born with – that we were all born with, but lose along the way through our experience.
My story is a journey of coming home. Coming home to myself, coming home to peace, coming home to wellbeing. That we do not need to live our BEST lives in order to cultivate and live a more sustainable GOOD life. That if we can find balance, peace and calm in our minds and hearts, that this ripples out into our lives and our communities. To find the confidence and empowerment to throw out the ‘shoulds’, and the rule book that society have put onto us – and instead write our own. That THIS is true empowerment, and the key to ultimate wellbeing and increased joy.
